Arctic Skitouring & Freeride Norway - Sweden
Europes last wilderniss
SKI & ROADTRIP
Imagine this: the roughest part of the Alps with the ocean reaching to the valleys and sunlight to midnight. That is skiing and skitouring in the Norwegian fjords! When Alpine ski season is over, that does not mean that our season is finished. In contrary! Mor and more skifreaks pull in spring over to the north where the days are long and the nature is at its best.
ADVENTURE SKIING UP NORTH
The geographical location of the mountain range on the line Kiruna / Narvik, on the border between Sweden and Norway, 200 miles above the Arctic Circle, and the influence of the Gulf Stream ensure a winter climate with lots of snow in this region. Here you will find in late spring 24/7 daylight. Moreover, this area compared to the Alps has one big advantage for those living on sea level: no acclimatization problems, because we ski between 0 and 2000 meters! That means you have more energy for skitouring and skiing and you can enjoy the very long descents at its best!
Program (subject to change, it is possible that we are going in the opposite direction depending on the flight schedules of the airlines SAS and Norwegian):
After arriving in Kiruna, Swedish Lapland, we drive our van to the Abisko Mountains. We stay in a pleasant and comfortable lodge with sauna and hot tub. You can expect an excellent typical Scandinavian breakfast and evening meals are also taken care of very well. To ski, we can choose from the ski areas Nuolja, Riksgränsen and Björkliden. Ski touring is also possible. Directly from the lodge is heliskiing possible in the vicinity of Kebnekaise (2111m), Sweden's highest mountain. When we're lucky, we are dropped at the end of the day in a beautiful mountain hut, obviously the highest in Sweden with a sauna and a very good kitchen. In bad weather we skin up to the hut.
We then continue our journey to Norway, Narvik to be exact, where the ski resort high above the ocean. The lifts are usually open from 11am here - 20h, freeriding is good and from the elevator area wonderful tours can be undertaken.
Our next goal is even further north: near Tromsø are the Lyngen Alps where we will make fantastic tours. A night fishing and a boat in a fjord, where we also see dolphins and whales, among the options. The program can be adapted to the rapidly changing snow and weather conditions and some flexibility is needed. You can expect all kinds of snow, wet slushy snow to beautiful spring snow or even loose powder. The program is designed for intermediate and good off-piste skiers and skitourers.
