On Monday 28 July, our mother, mother-in-law and co-founder of Edward Bekker Ski & Alpinisme (later Bekker Mountain Travel) passed away at the age of 91. From the founding of our company in 1987 until her retirement at the age of 80 in 2014, she tirelessly organised expeditions, sold trips and promoted our organisation. Finhaut (CH)-Chamonix (F), 25 juni 2022 - De Mont Blanc (4810m) is niet alleen de hoogste berg van de Alpen, maar ook een van de drukste. Jaarlijks trekt de berg zo’n 20’000 klimmers afkomstig uit de hele wereld aan. De populariteit van de berg is enerzijds te danken aan de hoogte, maar anderzijds ook omdat de berg tot voor kort technisch gezien niet heel moeilijk te beklimmen was. Dit is echter sinds dit voorjaar verleden tijd.

The most climbed route on Mont Blanc is the Goûter route, following the Bosses ridge towards the summit. It's the most classic route, which we basically always use for our Mont Blanc climbs. The route is technically the less hard of the available routes. Due to the climate change and retiring glaciers, the other routes already had become much more dangerous the last decade due to its increasing steepness, increased risk for sudden sérac collapses, hence avalanches risk. The classic route always used to be pretty safe above the Gouter hut.

The Norwegian-Canadian outdoorbrand Helly Hansen is as from winter 2021-2022 official partner of Bekker Mountain Travel. The entire team of the Netherlands' first IFMGA-certified Mountain and Ski guide Edward Bekker will be equipped with outfits from Helly Hansen's professional Odin mountain line.

Switzerland abolishes the recently introduced quarantine obligation for travelers from -among others- the Netherlands, Belgium and UK. Although the Alpine country is tightening up other measures, this will remove the main travel restriction. The new measure will apply from Saturday 4 December. Read more

From Monday 13 September, a Covid certificate will be mandatory in many places in Switzerland. This applies, for example, to restaurants, indoor sports facilities and entertainment venues.
