Matterhorn (4478m) extension program

The Matterhorn is definitely the most iconic mountain in the Alps. But it is also one of the more difficult 4000m peaks of the Alps. This mountain is exclusively reserved for experienced mountaineers and therefore previous experience in climbing alpine routes in rock is required. You can book this program in combination with one of our other Alps trips so that you appear sufficiently acclimatized at the start. For this climb we count 1 participant per guide. That is why this climb can only be booked as a private package.

Meeting point with the guide in the Hörnlihut or in the afternoon in Zermatt. The tour starts from Schwarzsee via the Hörnliweg. Count on about 3 hours hiking. Shared dinner in the hut and overnight stay.

The alarm clock still rings early in the night. Since the Matterhorn is a very popular mountain, we are unfortunately not the only ones. After a short breakfast we prepare for our summit attempt. The rush on the first steep ascent is great, so that the tour initially appears to be an intensive interval training. After this first quite stressful start, the rope groups spread out over the ridge and the rest of the tough climb follows and it's time to start enjoying the ascent. Arriving at the Solvay hut (bivouac), we have crossed the magical 4000 meter border. Here we take a short break. This place often serves as an evaluation moment: do we continue our way to the summit or is it wiser to go back? It gets really tough from here on; the air is getting thinner and thinner, but the view gets more and more impressive. And after a few hours of hard work, the time has finally come; we are on top of the Matterhorn! The view is unique, but the feeling of standing on top of this legendary mountain is simply magical.

After a short break we climb back down via the same route. On the descent, our full concentration is again required. Soon we'll be back at the Hörnlihütte, where we treat ourselves to a well-deserved drink before continuing down towards Schwarzsee.

The participant declares to be technically and physically able to climb the Matterhorn and to be sufficiently acclimatized before the start. Previous participation in one of our programs is required (we want to have climbed with you before). We recommend booking one of our glacier treks prior to this ascent. This way you will certainly start sufficiently acclimatized.

We can only book the cabin after we have received a formal booking and a deposit of €200 from you (we will send you a little bit or an IBAN number). Only when we have been able to reserve the hut will we receive a final confirmation and you must pay the remainder no later than 6 weeks before departure.

Before the trip (at least one day before departure) we will contact you to discuss the weather conditions. If the conditions on the mountain or the weather do not allow the tour, we will try to plan an alternative date. If that is not possible, the amount paid by you will be refunded minus € 100 organizational costs. We cannot refund any paid travel and cancellation insurance premium, but we can transfer it to another date in consultation.
