News from our Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro mountainbike expedition

While waiting for the first snowflakes in the Alps, Edward is currently in Africa, exploring two amazing peaks by mountainbike: Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro.

The ultimate trip! Starting with Mount Kenya as acclimatization climb. This must be 1 of the most stunning landscapes in the world, the valleys and jagged peaks of Mt Kenya. The climb up to Pt Lenana 4985 was tough and so was the long descent on and off our bikes. The last bit in a downpour made for hilarious mud trailriding. Our American Eagle bikes by Bart Brentjens, 1st Olympic mountain bike champion ever in 1996 Atlanta are superb, light, agile and amazing traction! Fantastic effort of the team.

After crossing/summitting Mnt Kenya, the next mission was climbing Kilimanjaro. We rode up on our American Eagle mountainbikes from our hotel at 1400m via Kilimanjaro’s Kilema gate to Horombo Camp (3700m); explored Mawenzi area for further acclimatisation and continued the next day to Kibo Camp (4700m) for a quick rest and final section to the summit. Hard work, but reached Uhuru peak (5985m) before the sunrise enjoying the rewarding views. The 3400m vertical drop downhill was faboulous. What a trip ! What a ride! Superbikes, so light&yet comfortable, thanks to Cas Brentjens & family for making this happen! And of course our charming Tanzanian friends.
